Forensics team takes second in tournament

RELEASED: Dec. 3, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics teams traveled to UW-Whitewater and UW-Madison Nov. 21-22 to compete in tournaments. With points combined from both days, the team placed second in overall team sweepstakes for the weekend.

Individual results from Saturday are as follows:

Junior Alicia Gerber, Ringle, placed first in prose and second in dramatic interpretation.

Junior Sarah Taylor, Merrill, placed first in poetry and third in after-dinner speaking.

Sophomore Patrick Martin, Burnsville, Minn., placed first in informative speaking, third in dramatic interpretation and fourth in extemporaneous speaking.

Senior Jake Johnson, Eau Claire, placed second in persuasion and fifth in informative speaking.

Sophomore James Kust, Eau Claire, placed sixth in persuasion.

Individual results from Sunday are as follows:

Martin placed first in individual sweepstakes. He placed first in both impromptu and informative speaking, second in duo interpretation with Taylor, and fourth in both extemporaneous speaking and dramatic interpretation. Martin qualified to compete at the American Forensic Association tournament in informative speaking and at the National Forensic Association tournament with Taylor in duo interpretation.

Kust placed third in individual sweepstakes. He placed second in both extemporaneous speaking and communication analysis, fourth in impromptu speaking and fifth in persuasion.

Senior Laura Magnusson, Apple Valley, Minn., placed first in prose, third in informative speaking and sixth in poetry.

Taylor placed second in impromptu speaking and fifth in program oral interpretation.

Gerber placed second in prose, fourth in program oral interpretation and sixth in dramatic interpretation.

Johnson placed third in impromptu speaking and qualified for AFA in that event.
