TO: News and Assignment Editors

FROM: Mike Rindo

DATE: Aug. 24, 2009

SUBJECT: Major New Tuition Initiative to Be Announced at Blugold Breakfast

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will hold its annual Blugold Breakfast and opening meeting of the academic year from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Aug. 25 in Zorn Arena.

In his state-of-the-university address, Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich will announce the Blugold Commitment, a major new initiative that, if approved, would significantly increase differential tuition paid by students to fund expanded experiential learning programs for all students. Such programs would include international and intercultural immersion experiences, increased faculty-student collaborative research, and enhanced internships and service-learning opportunities. The Blugold Commitment also would focus on increasing the affordability of a UW-Eau Claire education by improving four-year degree completion rates.

The agenda also includes the announcement of UW-Eau Claire Excellence Award winners, a check presentation from the UW-Eau Claire Foundation to the university and remarks from University Senate Chair Susan Harrison.

Members of the news media are invited to attend the opening meeting and state of the university address. For additional information contact Mike Rindo, executive director of University Communications, at 715-836-4742 or rindomj@uwec.edu.
