EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education announces the launch of "Great Explorations in Math and Science" in fall 2009. GEMS workshops will be held the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon through the 2009-10 academic year. Fall workshops include "Backyard Bugs," Sept. 12; "Think Small: Nanoscience," Oct. 10; "Under Pressure: The Physics of Force and Area," Nov. 14; and "Protecting Our Health," Dec. 12. All workshops will be held in Phillips Science Hall at UW-Eau Claire.
GEMS will bring science and math to life for fourth- to eighth-grade students through interactive workshops led by UW-Eau Claire faculty members. Each workshop will explore a different area of scientific discovery through experiments, demonstrations and hands-on activities. Parents are welcome to stay and learn alongside their children at no additional cost. However, small children or older children who are not registered for the workshop will not be admitted.
The fee for each GEMS workshop is $12 in advance or $18 at the door. On-site registration will be available as space allows.
