UW-Eau Claire Juried Student Art Show Winners Announced

RELEASED: April 29, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The 52nd annual Juried Student Art Show at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire opened April 22 with a presentation of awards during a reception in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The exhibit, which will run through May 10, is free and open to the public.

Foster Gallery director Tom Wagener said 196 works were entered. Seventy-four artworks by 51 artists were accepted into the show by this year's juror, John Garrett, a fibers/3-D artist from Albuquerque, N.M.

Senior Eric Lee, Eau Claire, won first place for his oil and gunpowder piece "Globe." Second place went to senior Katie Graham, Woodbury, Minn., for her acrylic painting "Hamburger Fishing." Senior Anne Hines, Omro, took third place with her basswood sculpture "Knot in Tune."

Honorable mentions were awarded to senior Hanna Agar, Westby, for her digital photo "Fallen Angel"; recent graduate Tiffany Bailey, Bagley, for her porcelain "Sake Set"; senior Danielle Schmitz, Melrose, for her digital photo "Old School"; senior Hjordi Danielson, Houston, Minn., for her sterling silver sculpture "Fish Ring"; and senior Jo Alexander, East Troy, for her charcoal drawing "30,000 Times Closer."

Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6-8 p.m. Thursdays and 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call Wagener at 715-836-2328.
