EAU CLAIRE —Paula Stuettgen, senior coordinator for student development and programs at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has received the national Outstanding Advisor of the Year award from Alpha Lambda Delta for 2008-09.

The National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta named Stuettgen the organization's top adviser in the nation during the UW-Eau Claire chapter's induction ceremony April 25.

"It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with Paula over the last several years," said Andrew Simon, past vice-president of the UW-Eau Claire chapter and current member of the National Advisory Council for Alpha Lambda Delta. "She brings out the best in everyone around her."
Alpha Lambda Delta is a national society that honors academic excellence during a student's first year in college. Its purpose is to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year in institutions of higher education, to promote intelligent living and continued high standards of learning, and to assist members in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society.

This honor is particularly meaningful because of her long-time affiliation with Alpha Lambda Delta, having been initiated into the group at UW-Eau Claire, Stuettgen said.

"My entire career has centered on working with university students — the most gratifying experience one could ever hope for," Stuettgen said. "Students involved in leadership and honors groups are particularly fun because they are self-motivated, questioning yet tolerant and creative. They never cease to amaze and surprise me."

Stuettgen has served as the UW-Eau Claire's chapter adviser since 1984. During her tenure, she has encouraged the chapter and individual students to achieve greatness and to serve others, Simon said. In recent years, several UW-Eau Claire students have received Alpha Lambda Delta Trow Scholarships and Graduate Fellowships, monetary awards given to the most outstanding students in the society nationwide.

Stuettgen has worked with the chapter's student leaders to integrate chapter programs with celebrations relating to the national society's 85th anniversary, Simon said. She also works with the chapter to organize monthly service projects on campus and in the community, he said.
