Annual Pay Inequity Bake Sale to Be Held April 28 at UW-Eau Claire and CVTC

RELEASED: April 24, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The Eau Claire Chapter of the American Association of University Women will hold its annual Pay Inequity Bake Sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 28 to raise awareness of the issues involved in pay inequity and recognize Equal Pay Day.

Baked goods, available in Hibbard Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the library entrance at the Chippewa Valley Technical College, will be priced at $1 for males and 75 cents for females.

According to the AAUW, to match men's earnings for 2009, U.S. women must work from January 2008 to April 2009 — an extra four months.

Equal Pay Day, which takes place on a Tuesday in April, symbolizes the point in the next year to which a woman in the United States must work to achieve pay equity for the previous year. Males must work five days per week for 12 months and a woman must work seven days per week for 16 months to earn equivalent wages.

Proceeds from the sale will help fund student scholarships.
