Four UW-Eau Claire Students Take Top Awards at Sports Medicine Conference

RELEASED: April 21, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — Four kinesiology students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire received top honors in research awards at the 2009 Northland American College of Sports Medicine Conference held last month in St. Cloud, Minn.

The UW-Eau Claire students placed first, second and third in the Research Posters category. A total of 33 posters were submitted.

Senior Allison Smith, Bloomington Minn., placed first with "The Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in Predominately Caucasian College-Aged Students," under the mentorship of Dr. Lance Dalleck, assistant professor of kinesiology.

Senior Jessica Tischendorf, Dorchester, along with Smith, placed second with "Effects of Acute Bouts of Static and Dynamic Stretching on Balance Performance in Older Adults," under the mentorship of Dalleck.

Seniors Tiana Weiss, Mondovi, and Hilary Wilde, Woodbury Minn., placed third with "Effect of Functional Resistance Training on Muscular Fitness Outcomes in Young Adults," under the mentorship of Dalleck and Dr. Jeffrrey Janot, assistant professor of kinesiology.
