EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension has announced the winners of the third annual Summer Institute Design-a-Cover Drawing Contest.
The winner of the Design-a-Cover Drawing Contest 2009 is Douglas Statz, a fourth grade student at Manz Elementary School in Eau Claire.
"What inspired me to draw an owl is first, I love the outdoors," Statz said. "Second, my favorite animal is an owl. My dream is to see an owl in the wild. I drew me looking at an owl because when I go camping I like to look at wildlife."

Each winner received a gift certificate to be used toward the 2009 summer youth class of his or her choice.
Sixty area students entered the contest. The winning drawings appear on the cover and throughout the brochure of the UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education Summer Youth Programs brochure, viewable online. Brochures have been distributed to all Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls public and private schools. Registration for the programs opened April 13.
UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education offers many learning opportunities throughout the summer for students entering kindergarten through 12th grade. Enrollment still is being accepted for the following classes:
UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education will accept walk-in or mailed registrations at 210 Water St., P.O. Box 4004, Eau Claire, WI, 54702-4004. Registrations can also be faxed to 715-836-5263. Information also is available on the Continuing Education Web site. If a child will require accommodations for a disability to participate in a program, the child's parent/guardian must contact the Continuing Education office to request and discuss these services before the start of the program.
