Student Leadership Recognition Awards Ceremony Set for April 24

RELEASED: April 17, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The 2009 Student Leadership Recognition Awards ceremony will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m. April 24 in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The accomplishments of student leaders, organizations and organization advisers will be celebrated at the campuswide program, which is free and open to all.

The program will open at 7 p.m. with remarks by Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich. Randy Wilber, lead exercise physiologist for the United States Olympic Committee, will then present "Thoughts on Leadership." Wilber is senior sport physiologist at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he oversees the operation of the athlete performance laboratory. A former assistant cross-country and track coach who earned his master's degree at UW-Eau Claire, he received the 2007 Alumni Association President's Award.

Angie Bong, student leadership and organizations coordinator, and Paul Shepherd, assistant director for leadership and education, will recognize participants in the Leadership Seminar.

John Bachmeier, director of alumni relations, and several award sponsors will present the 21st annual Student Leadership Recognition Awards. Winners will be announced. All nominees and applicants will be recognized. Several new awards have been added this year through the sponsorship of several UW-Eau Claire staff members.

Each year a call for nominations and applications is issued to all faculty, staff and students to recommend outstanding student leaders, student organizations and student organization advisers. A committee of faculty and staff selects recipients of the 10 student leadership recognition awards.

The program is sponsored by the Alumni Association, University Centers, UW-Eau Claire Foundation Inc. and Student Senate.
