UW-Eau Claire's Jazz III to Perform April 23

RELEASED: April 17, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble III will perform a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. April 23 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Jazz III, which features 17 students and is under the direction of Jeffery Crowell, associate professor of music, will present "A Tribute to Israel 'Cachao' Lopez, David 'Fathead' Newman and Louie Bellson." The performance will begin with "Machito Forever" by Tito Puente, "Manteca" by Dizzy Gillespie and Mike Mossman's "Cubauza."

The second half of the concert will begin with David Newman's "Hard Times," John Coltrane's "Nairna," as arranged by Newman, "Keep the Spirits Singing" by Newman, and "If I Were a Bellson" by Frank Mantooth.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $4 for the general public; $3 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and free for students with a university ID.
