Economist to Discuss How History Relates to the Recession of 2009

Let's Do Lunch imageEAU CLAIRE — A University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire economist will discuss the current recession and implications of the recent economic downturn during an Alumni Association luncheon this month.

Dr. Wayne Carroll, professor of economics, will present "The Great Recession of 2008-09: Starting to Build the Historical Perspective" from noon-1 p.m. April 29 at Sweetwater's Restaurant in Eau Claire.

Carroll will examine the history of previous recessions and the Great Depression, and apply those lessons to today's economic crisis. He will discuss similarities and differences between today's economic picture and those of the past.

Carroll, the chair of the economics department at UW-Eau Claire, teaches classes on money and banking and the history of the dollar. He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota.

The April 29 presentation is part of the Alumni Association's "Let's Do Lunch" program which is open to the public. The $10 cost includes the presentation, buffet, beverage, tax and tip. To reserve tickets, contact the Alumni Association at alumni@uwec.edu or 715-836-3266.
