UW-Eau Claire to Celebrate Honors Week April 20-26

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will celebrate its 37th annual Scholastic Honors Week April 20-26. The week is a time to recognize students of high scholastic achievement.

The following programs, with the exception of the Honors Banquet, are open to the public and free of charge. All events will take place in Davies Center unless otherwise noted.

April 20:

  • The Beta Gamma Sigma Clothing Drive for Charities, 8 a.m-5 p.m., Schneider Hall lobby, through April 24.
  • The Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma Jump-a-thon for Hearts, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Central Campus Mall.

April 21:

  • Omicron Delta Kappa graduation information station, 10 a.m.-3p.m., Skylight Lounge of Davies Center. Vendors will offer graduation-related products and services.
  • The Omicron Delta Kappa Workforce and Graduate School Seminar, noon-3 p.m., Clearwater, Badger, Wisconsin and Presidents rooms of Davies Center.
  • The Sigma Delta Pi Juegos Florales Poetry Reading Competition in Spanish, 4-5 p.m., The Cabin in Davies Center.

April 22:

  • Phi Kappa Phi grant winner presentation, noon, Presidents Room of Davies Center.
  • 4:30 p.m. - Student Debate — "The Great Recession of 2008-09: The Bailout, the Stimulus Package and Obama's Budget" - Room 100 of Hibbard Hall (Omicron Delta Epsilon)
  • The Omicron Delta Kappa "An Education in Personalities: Imitate Your Professors Night," 7:30-9:30 p.m., Davies Theatre. The event is an open mic night where people will impersonate professors. The event is intended for professors and students who can take a joke.

April 23:

  • Phi Alpha's "Religion, Spirituality and Ethics" workshop, 1-5 p.m., Presidents Room of Davies Center. Dr. Nick Smiar of the social work department will lead the session.
  • Golden Key's Eau Claire Area School District fourth-grade essay contest judging, 6-8 p.m., Arrowhead Room.
  • SOPHS's annual SOPHS Telethon with TV-10, 7 p.m.-midnight, Towers' TV lounge/TV-10 studio.
  • The 12th annual Ann Devroy Memorial Forum, 7:30 p.m., Schofield Auditorium. The event will feature Dan Balz, an author and prize-winning journalist who is now national political correspondent for The Washington Post.

April 24:

  • The 24th annual Kaleidoscope of Nursing Research Day, 8:30 a.m., Davies Center and Nursing Building. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Priscilla Ebersole, who will present "Geriatric Nursing Through the Eyes of a Pioneer." The luncheon keynote speaker will be Dr. Lee-Ellen Kirkhorn, who will present "A Brief Visit to China Through the Lens of a Nurse Photographer." The event will be sponsored by Sigma Theta Tau, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and Continuing Education.
  • Sigma Theta Tau International's induction ceremony, 3:45 p.m., Davies Theatre.

April 25 — Honors Day:

  • Phi Kappa Phi initiation, 11 a.m., Davies Theatre.
  • Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma initiation, 1 p.m., Schofield Auditorium.
  • Beta Gamma Sigma initiation, 1 p.m., Alumni Room, Davies Center.
  • Beta Alpha Psi initiation, 1:30 p.m., Presidents Room, Davies Center.
  • Reception for all honor society members, friends and families attending initiations or events, 2-5 p.m., Council Fire Room, Davies Center. The reception will be sponsored by the Alumni Association and UW-Eau Claire honors groups.
  • Omicron Delta Kappa initiation, 3 p.m., Davies Theatre.
  • Sigma Gamma Zeta II initiation, 4 p.m., Alumni Room, Davies Center.
  • Honors Banquet, 5:30 p.m. Spruce/Tamarack rooms, Davies Center.

April 26:

  • Mortar Board initiation ceremony, 11:30 a.m., Central Campus Mall or Davies Theatre in the case of inclement weather. A noon brunch will follow in the Council Fire Room, Davies Center.
