UW-Eau Claire's Interactive English Festival Set for April 27-May 1

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's English department will host its annual English Festival — a weeklong celebration of reading, writing and the arts — April 27-May 1 in Davies Center.

The English Festival is one of the largest student-run language arts festivals in the nation, featuring guest authors, lectures by faculty members, student panels, capstone presentations and an international poetry reading. It also will include live music from noon-1 p.m. daily on the campus mall.

Events are free and open to the public.

Poster displays, T-shirts, word play games such as Scrabble and Catch Phrase, and the English Fest interactive game "The Raven Redone" can be found all week (beginning April 27) in the Badger Room.

The 2009 festival also will include:

April 28:

  • Gifted and talented reading by Eau Claire middle school students at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Fire Room.
  • Vocal recital by students in the UW-Eau Claire music department at 8 p.m. in Davies Theatre.

April 29:

  • Sigma Tau Delta Children's and Young Adults' Writing Contest ceremony at 5:30 p.m. in the Tamarack Room.
  • German drama performance at 6 p.m. in the Potawatomi Room.
  • The third annual International Poetry Reading at 7 p.m. in the Council Fire Room.
  • English student capstone presentations from in various Davies Center locations.

April 30:

  • NOTA Open Mic Night at 6 p.m. in The Cabin.
  • Spoken word artist Dasha Kelly at 8 p.m. in The Cabin.
  • English student capstone presentations in various Davies Center locations.
