Summer Youth Programs Registration Open

banner for Summer Youth Programs brochureEAU CLAIRE — Registration will open April 13 for University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education Summer Youth Programs.

  • Summer Institute sessions will be held from June 15-25 at Halmstad Elementary in Chippewa Falls and from July 6-16 at Locust Lane Elementary in Eau Claire. Summer Institute classes are offered in math, science, language arts, social studies, foreign languages, creative arts, music and sports. Presented in 90-minute periods from 8:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Monday through Thursday, classes emphasize hands-on, interactive learning. Both sessions include a kindergarten program for children entering 4- or 5-year-old kindergarten in fall of 2009. Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire school districts provide tuition credits for students residing in their districts.
  • Brain Blasters is a program for sixth- through eighth-grade students. Classes include science, technology, math, writing, art, history, sports and more. Brain Blasters will be held June 15-25 and July 6-16 at UW-Eau Claire. Classes meet for 90 minutes from 8:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire school districts provide tuition credit for students residing in their districts.
  • Storytelling Workshop for fourth- through sixth-grade students will be held from 9 a.m.-noon July 27 and 29 at UW-Eau Claire. Storytelling stimulates the imagination, improves language skills and helps children develop into better writers.
  • Total Percussion Camp for eighth- through 12th-grade students will be held from 9 a.m.-noon June 8-12 on campus. The camp provides instruction and performance in all areas of percussion including mallet, timpani, marching, concert and world percussion. Some percussion experience is recommended. All equipment is provided, including drums, sticks and mallets. Students can bring their own equipment.
  • Clearwater Musical Theatre Camp for ninth- through 12th-grade students will be held July 12-17 on campus. Both residential and commuter options are available. Activities include voice performance workshops, daily dance classes, scene work, acting study and special topics workshops. All instruction is led by university faculty. A performance will be held for family and friends on the last day of camp.
  • Bridge to High School Math for eighth-grade students will be held from 8:30-10 a.m. July 13-Aug. 13 at Northstar Middle School in Eau Claire. The course is for students who have struggled with middle school math. It reinforces computational and problem-solving skills critical to success in high school math. To register, call Continuing Education at 715-836-3636.
  • ACT Prep Course for 10th- through 12th-grade students will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 3-7 on campus. The course provides direct instruction in each of the ACT exam's five subject areas: English, math, reading, scientific reasoning and writing.
