SUBJECT: Test of Campus Emergency Notification System Set for April 9

 

UW-Eau Claire will conduct a campuswide test of its enhanced emergency notification system at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, April 9.

The test will include the following notification methods:

  • pop-up message on all university-owned computers, including those in offices, labs and classrooms

  • e-mail to all students, faculty and staff
  • unique ringtone and accompanying text message on all campus voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) telephones
  • a message sent over the university's Carillon
  • announcements on the UW-Eau Claire home page
  • a text message to cell phones that have been registered in the cell phone notification system

Following the test, faculty, staff and students will be asked to complete a brief Web survey to provide feedback regarding the emergency notification system.

UW-Eau Claire conducted a similar test in May 2008. The notification system was enhanced based on findings from the previous test. For example, the university has upgraded the software used to place the pop-up messages on computers. The new program will allow the pop-up to override programs such as PowerPoint and will not allow the pop-up to be deleted immediately.
