UW-Eau Claire to Host First Blugold Family Weekend April 24-26

RELEASED: April 6, 2009

Blugold Family Weekend imageEAU CLAIRE — Parents, grandparents, siblings and friends of current University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students are invited to participate in the first Blugold Family Weekend April 24-26.

"The weekend will give our students' loved ones a chance to get a taste of life at UW-Eau Claire," said Jennifer Lee, director of the Blugold Family Connection. "We'll offer more than 30 events and programs during the weekend. Activities will range from classroom discussions with faculty, to entertainment showcasing talented students, to demonstrations of cutting edge technology, to recreation activities."

Participants in the Blugold Family Weekend can begin checking in at 10 a.m. April 24. Activities will continue through the evening of April 26.

The event is different from anything else offered on campus because it's open to all students regardless of whether they live in residence halls or in off-campus housing, Lee said.

"The Blugold Family weekend was created to reach out to all family members of all of our students, and as a way to showcase the many activities and opportunities for involvement students have at UW-Eau Claire," Lee said. "The events are varied enough that there should be things that appeal to everyone. For example, there will be physics demonstrations with exploding racquetballs and geology demonstrations of volcano eruptions, but there also will be belly dancing lessons and chair massages."

The $40 registration fee will provide access to many of the weekend's activities. There may be additional charges for some events.

To register or see a list of Blugold Family Weekend activities, go to the Blugold Family Connection Web site.
