RELEASED: April 3, 2009

EAU CLAIRE — A number of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students will assist with the third annual "Puddle Jump," a 5K fun run/walk that will benefit Longfellow Elementary School in Eau Claire.

Members of the Blugold women's soccer team, the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and the student organization Pi Sigma Epsilon will help with the race, which will begin at 9 a.m. April 18 in Phoenix Park in downtown Eau Claire. A number of students also will run in the race.

Proceeds from the race will benefit Longfellow's After-School 21st Century Community Learning Center and student scholarships for community programs.

"UW-Eau Claire student volunteers are an important part of making this annual event so successful," said Holly Larson, partnership coordinator at Longfellow and a race organizer. "We are grateful to the students who volunteer as well as those students who participate in the race. This event is one of the many ways the university students support our school and its programs."

Participants in the race can register in advance or starting at 7:30 a.m. the day of the race. The race will follow the Chippewa River trail in a 5K loop back to Phoenix Park. A quarter-mile children's race will begin at 10 a.m. at Phoenix Park.

The cost to register in advance is $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The cost to register on race day is $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Forms can be picked up at Fleet Feet on Water Street in Eau Claire and in Menomonie, and the Eau Claire YMCA. Registration forms also can be downloaded from Longfellow's Web site.
