UW-Eau Claire to Offer Workshops for Supervisory Management Program

RELEASED: Sept. 19, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will present several workshops from the Supervisory Management Certificate program in October and November.

Designed for managers, supervisors and small business owners, the workshops may be taken individually or as part of the certificate program requirements.

  • "Supervisory Management 1" will be held Oct. 9-10 at Sweetwaters Restaurant in Eau Claire. Topics include the supervisory aspect of management, understanding your leadership style, motivating employee performance and dealing with non-performance.
  • "Supervisory Management 2" will be held Oct. 22-23 in the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center at UW-La Crosse and on Nov. 6-7 at Sweetwaters Restaurant in Eau Claire. Topics include establishing orientation policies and procedures, understanding communication behaviors, time management, delegating, and developing your employees.
  • "Supervisory Management 3" will be held Nov.11-12 in the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center at UW-La Crosse. Topics include working toward effective coaching, establishing job expectations and critical skills in the coaching process.
  • "Negotiation Skills" will be held Oct. 2-3 in the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center at UW-La Crosse. Topics include negotiating project deadlines; work assignments; budget and human resource allocations; and strategies, skills, and motivations for negotiating win-win outcomes. Participants will apply the concepts to everyday interactions and specialized contract or conflict situations.
  • "Facing Conflict Head-On!" will be held Oct. 23-24 at Sweetwaters Restaurant in Eau Claire. Topics include the conflict process, frequent causes of organizational conflict, how to diagnosis the root causes of impasse, and how to productively manage conflict.
  • "Maximizing Performance" will be held Oct. 28-29 at the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center at UW-La Crosse. Topics include creating an environment for excellence; identifying what you are rewarding; fine-tuning coaching and goal-setting techniques; diagnosing performance problems; and turning around undesirable behaviors and rewarding desirable behaviors.
  • "Building a Competent Workforce" will be held Nov. 19-20 in the Cleary Alumni and Friends Center at UW-La Crosse. Topics include how to set up one-to-one job instruction training for efficient task mastery, job documentation, training checklists and how to adapt to various trainee learning styles.

Workshops meet from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Individual course fees are $425 per

person and include lunch, breaks, materials and instruction. Group fee is $375 per person for three to five people from the same firm attending the same session and registering at the same time. Series fee is $1,125 per individual registering for Supervisory Management 1, 2 and 3 at the same time.
