UW-Eau Claire Foundation Event to Celebrate Successful Fundraising Year, Campaign

RELEASED: Sept. 19, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation will celebrate a successful fundraising year — the second best year in Foundation history — and the conclusion of its Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence campaign during an Oct. 3 reception.

During the reception, the Foundation will honor its Circle of Excellence donors, a group that includes people whose cumulative gifts to the Foundation total $10,000 or more and corporate donors who have given $25,000 or more.

The UW-Eau Claire Foundation ended the fiscal year 2008 with $4,040,900 in gifts, with contributions from Circle of Excellence members representing more than 60 percent of the total gifts received for the year, said Kimera Way, executive director of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.

Gifts from Circle of Excellence members also represented a significant portion of gifts to the Fulfilling the Promise of Excellence campaign, which ended in December 2007 with nearly $54 million in total commitments, Way said.

"It's gratifying to have so much to celebrate," said Way. "Since concluding the campaign in December 2007, we all have experienced great economic uncertainty. Yet, our alumni and friends, particularly the members of the Circle of Excellence, have continued to respond positively and generously to support UW-Eau Claire and its people and programs."

The Circle of Excellence is a thriving group of donors, with 37 new members this past year, Way said, noting that 36 current members moved up to new giving levels. The Circle of Excellence now has more than 600 members, she said.

"The Circle of Excellence members set the tone for giving," said Bert Colianni, president of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation board of directors. "We are humbled by their continuous high level of generosity that continues to gain momentum as we move beyond the campaign. The members sustained giving shows support of the university's efforts to become the premier undergraduate learning community in the Upper Midwest as called for in the university's new strategic plan."

The theme for this year's Circle of Excellence celebration is "Celebrating Generosity: It Makes a World of a Difference." The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in Davies Center.
