'Race and the Constitution' to Be Constitution Day Topic Sept. 17

Mast for Constitution Day Web siteEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will celebrate Constitution Day, the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution at the Philadelphia Convention, with a presentation by Dr. Peter Myers, professor of political science.

"Race and the Constitution" will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in Schofield Auditorium.

The presentation will last 30-45 minutes, with another 15-30 minutes allotted for a question-and-answer period.

Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia was instrumental in getting Congress to pass a law designating Sept. 17 as Constitution Day and requiring schools and federal agencies to hold educational programs on that day to educate Americans about the Constitution.
