UW System Faculty and Students Offered
Discount for Performance by German Orchestra

RELEASED: Sept. 12, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin system students, faculty and staff are being offered a special discount for a performance by Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester at the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. Oct. 3.

The UW-Madison German department is encouraging faculty and students of the German language and culture throughout the UW System to take advantage of the offer.

Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester are popular in Europe and have enjoyed great success on both U.S. coasts at large venues. The group captures the cosmopolitan feel of German cabaret in the 1920s and 1930s with precision, urgency and irony. Raabe, a baritone with an impressive vocal range, sparkles with a slick and witty delivery, and his 12-piece ensemble provides just the right backdrop.

"In the grand style of performers from Germany's Weimar Republic, Max Raabe and his Palast Ochestra like to party like it's 1929," wrote the New York Times.

Tickets range from $25 to $49. UW students, faculty and staff will receive $10 off all seating areas. Tickets are available at the Overture Center ticket office, by phone (608-258-4141) or online.
