L.E. Phillips Planetarium Announces
Fall Lineup of Presentations for Adults and Kids

RELEASED: Sept. 8, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The L.E. Phillips Planetarium — located in Phillips Science Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire — will offer presentations this fall to help members of the campus and greater Eau Claire communities learn more about space, the solar system and the stars in the night sky.

Public shows are offered at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays for adults and youth more than 12 years old. Childrens shows, appropriate for ages 4-12, begin at 11 a.m. Saturdays.

A planetarium presenter will discuss the night sky and help audience members learn to identify constellations. A question and answer period is always included. Each show features a specific topic, which varies by month.

Tuesday night shows in September feature "More than Meets the Eye," which focuses on where celestial objects are located in the night sky as well as what they look like through large telescopes. In October, "Cultural Constellations" will tell various cultures' stories of the sky. November will feature "Wonders of Deep Space." "Adventures along the Spectrum," which examines invisible light from the sky, such as infrared radiation, will be featured in December.

Saturday children's shows in September will feature "Lifestyles of the Stars" (no public show Sept. 20). In October, children can learn the "Secret of the Cardboard Rocket." The young childrens favorite, "Larry, Cat in Space," will be featured in November (no show Thanksgiving weekend). "Constellations, Myths and Legends" will be shown in December.

The cost for all shows is $2 at the door. Free parking in university lots is available on weekends and in the evening.

For more information, visit www.uwec.edu/planetarium or call 715-836-3148. Group shows and school field trips can also be arranged and group rates are available.
