Documentary on Ecological Crisis to Screen Sept. 18-20 at UW-Eau Claire's Davies Theatre

RELEASED: Sept. 4, 2008

The 11th Hour posterEAU CLAIRE — "The 11th Hour" (2007), a documentary feature that presents an urgent appeal to change course in our rush toward global ecological collapse, will screen Sept. 18-21 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Narrated and co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, the film will be shown at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday in Davies Theatre.

"The 11th Hour" examines the state of the global environment in the wake of recent natural disasters — showing us where we've been, where we're going, and how we can change. Stephen Hawking, David Orr and Mikhail Gorbachev are among the dozens of leading scientists, thinkers and leaders who discuss visionary and practical solutions for restoring the planet's beleaguered ecosystems.

"Grand plans for cleaner transport, systems of renewable energy and day-to-day sustainable living add up to a surprisingly seductive vision of the future," wrote BBC reviewer Stella Papamichael. "After so much horror, the last gust of this brainstorm inspires a sense of shared responsibility and a feeling that change is possible and practical. The rest is up to you."

The first presentation in this year's International Film Series, the 95-minute film is rated PG.

Admission is $2 for International Film Society members and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff and $1 for UW-Eau Claire students. Tickets are available at the Service Center (715-836-3727) in Davies Center's east lobby, and will be sold at the door.

Tickets for all campus events also are on sale at the Service Center's ticket office in the main lobby of Haas Fine Arts Center. The ticket outlet is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and is closed during holidays and academic breaks.

More information about the campus film series is available online and at the Activities and Programs office, Davies Center 133.
