Musical Events
for the Week of Nov. 3

RELEASED: Oct. 28, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Nov. 3. All events are free and open to the public.

Wednesday, Nov. 5:

  • Seniors Charis Boersma, Wild Rose, and Kristen Sward, Rochester, Minn., will present an oboe and flute recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Boersma will present Sonata BWV 1031 by Johann Sebastian Bach, "Two Fancy Pieces" by Carl Nielsen and "Blues for D.D." by Jeffrey Agrell. Sward will perform "Romance" by Philippe Gaubert, "Air" by Toru Takemitsu and Suite Opus 116 by Benjamin Godard. Boersma and Sward will join to perform the final piece, "A Joyful Solitude," an original composition by junior Alyssa Severson.

Sunday, Nov. 9:

  • Seniors Samantha Michaelson, Arbor Vitae, and Tarrah Irussi, Brookfield, will present a dance capstone recital at 2 p.m. in Kjer Theatre. The performance will feature nine original dances. The program will begin with an original dance set to "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay, "T.I. and the Shakers" set to "Tambourine" by Eve and "Same Difference" set to John Frusciante's "Murderers." The performance will continue with a piece about the Holocaust, as yet untitled; "Server Piece" set to "I Wanna Riot" by Rancid; and "Death Toll" set to "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of a War Drum" by A Perfect Circle. The final three dances of the recital will include a modern piece, also as yet untitled, and dances set to "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" and "Say" by John Mayer.
