EAU CLAIRE — Indie-pop performer Tyler James will play three free concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Nov. 7-8.

James' shows in The Cabin, the Davies Center coffeehouse that is celebrating its 40th anniversary season, will begin Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., and Saturday at 8 p.m.

"An understated, melodic singer songwriter specializing in lush, piano-driven pop, Tyler James has an unadorned, vulnerable vocal style that grows on you ... adding complexity to deceptively simple lyrics," wrote The Nashville Scene.

"I write my songs on the upright piano in my house under the windows where the sun shines in," James has said. "I will never cease to be inspired by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Nick Drake, David Bowie, Rainer Marie Rilke, Woody Allen, Jack Kerouac and The Band."

Born near Seattle and raised in small-town Iowa, James moved to Nashville in 2000. He has released two EPs ("An EP" and "Sweet Relief"), and his music has been heard on ABC-TV's "Brothers and Sisters" and MTV's "The Hills."

Cabin performances are free and open to all ages. Soft drinks, domestic and imported beer, specialty coffee drinks and tea are sold at all evening programs. Proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.

All performances are produced and managed completely by student members of The Cabin committee of the Student Senate's University Activities Commission. For a complete schedule of the semester's Cabin presentations, contact the Activities and Programs office, 715-836-4833, or visit the Cabin Web site.
