SUBJECT: UW-Eau Claire Geology Students to Present Research to DNR Oct. 23
Twelve UW-Eau Claire students will share the results of their geophysical exploration of the Waste Reclamation and Recycling site during a presentation at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at WRR's offices on Ryder Road in Eau Claire.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources asked students in the Engineering Geology and Geophysics class to help characterize the subsurface at WRR to aid in groundwater remediation efforts. Dr. Katherine Grote, assistant professor of hydrogeology in the department of geology, teaches the course.
For the past four weeks, the students' weekly lab assignment was to spend several hours collecting geophysical data at WRR, then to analyze and interpret the data. Each week they used a new geophysical technique, as different information is obtained from different techniques.
The students will present their project Thursday to representatives of the DNR, WRR and the local consulting company SEH.
Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend the session.
For more information about the project or Thursday's presentation, contact Dr. Katherine Grote at 715-836-5485 or grotekr@uwec.edu.
