Awarded Scholarships from Greater Milwaukee Foundation

RELEASED: Oct. 17, 2008

Greater Milwaukee Foundation logoEAU CLAIRE — Two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students have been awarded 2008-09 Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Journal Foundation/Walter Jay and Clara Charlotte Damm Fund scholarships.

Senior Heather Mawhiney, Delafield, a print journalism and Spanish major, and senior Brianna Seidlitz, Chippewa Falls, a print journalism major, each were awarded $1,750.

The scholarships are awarded to full-time continuing students pursuing a career in radio, television or other news and entertainment communications media. The primary criteria for selection are financial need and scholastic ability, with preference given to students who have a current relationship with Journal Communications Inc. or one of its subsidiaries, such as The Journal Sentinel Inc., Journal Community Publishing Group, Journal Broadcast Group, IPC Print Svcs and PrimeNet.

The scholarship funds for tuition and fees are awarded in two parts — half in the fall of 2008 and half in the spring of 2009.

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation is a family of nearly 1,000 individual charitable funds, each created by donors to serve the local charitable causes of their choice. Grants from these funds serve people throughout Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties. Started in 1915, the Foundation is one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the United States. More information is available at their Web site.
