for the Week of Oct. 13

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Oct. 13. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, Oct. 13:

  • Junior Aaron Hedenstrom, St. Paul, Minn., will present an alto and tenor saxophone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by sophomore Mary Zimmerman, Hedenstrom will begin with Cello Suite No. 1 by Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by "Gavambodi II" by Jacques Charpentier and Eugene Bozza's "Improvisation and Caprice." The recital will continue with "Vocalise" by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The performance will conclude with Hedenstrom's original composition, "Un Film D'Aventures." He will be assisted on vocals by community member Jo Alexander, on piano by junior Brandon Covelli, on bass by junior Andy Detra, and on drums by junior Dave Power.

Tuesday, Oct. 14:

  • Sophomore Loren Endorf, Ham Lake, Minn., will present a trumpet recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by community member Anne Kubiatowicz, Endorf will begin with "Badinage" by Eugene Bozza. Next will be Divertimento for Trumpet, Trombone, and Piano by Boris Blacher featuring sophomore Nicole Brellenthin on trombone, followed by Sonata for Trumpet and Piano by Kent Kennan and Canzon per Sonare No. 1, "La Spiritata," by Giovanni Gabrieli. The recital will conclude with junior Adam Lowe's arrangement of Igor Stravinsky's "Firebird." Canzon per Sonare will feature sophomore Kari Bloomquist on trumpet, junior Adam Lowe on trombone, senior Paul Seganski on horn and junior Joe Lasko on tuba.

Wednesday, Oct. 15:

  • The Voice Studio of Mitra Sadeghpour will present a joint student recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The recital will begin with senior Johnathan Turba, Platteville, performing "Four Lyrics" by Ottorino Respighi, followed by senior Allison Wells, Eau Claire, performing "Honey and Rue" by André Previn and Francis Poulenc's "Fiancailles pour Rire," performed by senior Kevin Newell, Edgar. The recital will conclude with senior Lauren Tompkins' performance of Alban Berg's "Sieben Fruhe Lieder." The students will be accompanied on piano by seniors David Hurd, Kristen Sward and Johnathan Turba, and junior Kevin Gisi.

Sunday, Oct. 19:

  • Assistant professors Christa Garvey, performing on oboe, and Namji Kim, on piano, will present a faculty recital at 2 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Garvey and Kim will begin with Concerto for Oboe in C Major by Joseph Haydn, followed by Fantasy No. 11 in G Major by Georg Phillip Telemann and Malcolm Arnold's Fantasy for Oboe Op. 90. Following intermission, the recital will continue with "Nightwatches" by Richard Toensing. The performance will conclude with Oboe Sonata in D Major, Op. 166 by Camille Saint-Saens.
