to Offer New Information and Events

RELEASED: Oct. 7, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — Career Services at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will offer a variety of activities Oct. 13-17 during Explore Your Possibilities Week.

Possibility PeteHosted by a red-white-and-blue-decked Possibility Pete, the well-known mascot of Career Services, many of this year's presentations focus on government job opportunities, national service and community involvement.

Thanks to a grant from the Annenberg Foundation, a delegate from the Washington, D.C., office of Partnership for Public Service will be on hand during the week to discuss the benefits of working for the federal government. Natalie LaLonde, who holds a bachelor's degree in public administration and public policy and a second bachelor's degree in international studies from Michigan State University, works as a language services coordinator for the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division translations and linguistic services contract.

EYP Week 2008 will begin with a rally from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Career Services office, Schofield Hall 230.

Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 14-16, employers, faculty, staff and invited alumni will talk about a wide variety of majors and careers, ways to get work experience and the job search. Most sessions offered are on general topics meant to help students prepare for success in many areas of their lives, not just in choosing a career path.

A full schedule of events for EYP Week 2008 can be found online and students are encouraged to register at the same Web site prior to the event. University faculty and staff members also are welcome to attend any sessions that interest them.

This year the annual Majors Fair will serve as the culminating event for EYP Week 2008, offering an opportunity for undecided students to take their newfound knowledge and declare a major. The Majors Fair will take place from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

A Career Services Victory Party will wrap up the week from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Career Services office, Schofield Hall 230. Free ice cream sundaes, door prizes and more information on how students can explore their possibilities will be offered.

A few of the many businesses and organizations sending representatives to speak at this event are Hormel Foods, Northwestern Mutual, Chippewa Valley Office Solutions, American Family Insurance, Sherwin-Williams, NBI Inc., Community Health Partnership, Peace Corps, Cargill, Eau Claire County, the city of Eau Claire, Best Buy, St. Joseph's Hospital and the Eau Claire Area School District.
