EAU CLAIRE — A recent University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire graduate was named a new major gifts officer for the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.

Kyle Buchmann, who graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in management, assumed the major gifts position Oct. 1.

"We're thrilled to have Kyle return to the university," said Kimera Way, executive director of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. "When he was a student he achieved so many things and was what we'd consider an ideal UW-Eau Claire student. He's expressed how eager he is to return to Eau Claire and work on behalf of his alma mater. He knows this university so well and his enthusiasm and passion for it will serve us well."

While a student, Buchmann was coach and general manager of the Blugold club baseball team. In addition, he was a student manager of Davies Center, a resident assistant, a Campus Ambassador and a freshman orientation assistant. In 2005, he received the Outstanding Leadership Award and was named the Distinguished Management Major of the Year.

Buchmann has worked for the National Club Baseball Association since 2005, first as director of spring training and then as director of tournaments and championships. He said his work with the National Club Baseball Association has prepared him well for his new position.

"I've had the opportunity to build strong relationships with supporters and sponsors through my work with the National Club Baseball Association," Buchmann said. "I think that this experience, along with my love for UW-Eau Claire, will help me connect well with alumni in this new position. I am very excited for the opportunity to give back to the university that gave me so much during my time as a student."

As a major gifts officer, Buchmann will work closely with the director of major gifts, focusing on one-on-one coordination and stewardship of major gift prospects and donors. His responsibilities will include contacting and visiting prospective donors, assisting in campus visits and other special activities.
