Symphony Band and Wind Symphony to Perform Oct. 12 at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band and Wind Symphony will present a concert at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Symphony Band, under the direction of Phillip Ostrander, will begin with "Fanfare for the Great Hall" by Jack Stamp, Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Folk Song Suite" and "Elegy for a Young American" by Ronald Lo Presti. The Symphony Band will conclude its performance with "Green Light" by Mary Ellen Childs and "Festal Scenes" by Yashuhide Ito.

The Wind Symphony then will take the stage, opening with Andreas Makris' "Aegean Festival Overture," followed by First Suite in Eb by Gustav Holst, "Suite Dreams" by Steven Bryant and "Blink!" by Joel Puckett. The concert will conclude with Keith Wilson's arrangement of "March" from the "Symphonic Metamorphosis" by Paul Hindemith. The Wind Symphony is conducted by James Colonna.

Following the performance, attendees are encouraged to join the directors and performers in the lobby for a reception hosted by the UW-Eau Claire National Band Association Student Chapter.

Tickets are available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC. Tickets are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.

Tickets for campus events also are on sale at the Service Center's ticket office in the main lobby of Haas Fine Arts Center. The ticket outlet is open from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is closed during holidays and academic breaks.
