Musical Events
for the Week of Dec. 1

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Dec. 1. All events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Dec. 2:

  • The Student Voice Ensemble, featuring eight vocal students, will present a concert at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Featuring special guests baritone Ryan Metcalf, a senior from Eau Claire, and Daniel Newman, associate professor of music, on piano and harpsichord, the ensemble will perform selections by Henry Purcell, Dr. Caesar, Antonio Lotti and Agostino Steffani.
  • The Violoncello Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Directed by Tulio Rondón, assistant professor of music, the Violoncello Ensemble will perform works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Josef Werner, Claudio Monteverdi and Metallica. The concert will feature seven music students and soprano Mitra Sadeghpour, associate professor of music, as guest artist.

Wednesday, Dec. 3:

  • The Oboe Studio of Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music, will present a joint student recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Eight oboe students will perform selections by Edward Michael, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Georg Philipp Telemann, Vincenzo Bellini and others.
  • The tuba and euphonium studio BASSically BRASS will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The studio, comprised of eight students in tuba and euphonium, will perform Wisconsin premiere arrangements of Camille Saint-Saens' "Danse Macabre" and "Canzon Cornetto a 4" by Samuel Scheidt, as well as a world premiere performance of "tba4tet" by James Grant. The studio also will present other selections by Camille Saint-Saens, Franz Joseph Haydn, George Frideric Handel and others. The second half of the concert will feature the Trombone Ensemble. The ensemble, comprised of 17 trombone students, will perform selections by G.F. Handel, Greg Ellis, Gabriel Faure and others.
