Female A Cappella Group Audacious to Give Free Concert Dec. 5

RELEASED: Nov. 24, 2008

Audacious
UW-Eau Claire female a cappella group Audacious.

EAU CLAIRE — The female a cappella group Audacious will give a free concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 in Schofield Auditorium at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The group will perform four sets, 16 songs in all, featuring popular music from the 1980s, 90s and today. Some pieces included are "Extraordinary," "Like a Prayer," Independent Woman," "Young and Beautiful," "Ain't No Other Man," "Killing Me Softly," "Say You'll be There" and "Mercy."

Comprised of 13 students from many majors, Audacious was started in 2005 by a senior who wanted to create an all-female a cappella group that exemplified strong, beautiful women through music. A number of songs in the group's repertoire focus on women's independence. The name Audacious means "spirited and original; unrestricted by convention."

Music majors include seniors Tamara Delveaux, Grafton; juniors Kalah Halek, Maple Grove, Minn., and Megan Cruze, Cold Spring Minn.; and sophomores Gillian Pacetti, Waukesha, and Taylor Brummond, Oregon. Senior Lora Anderson, Green Bay, has majors in music and political science, and senior Bethany Nikstad, Wausau, has majors in music and German. The group includes senior Kelly Slowinski, a communication and Spanish major from Appleton; senior Amy Becht, an elementary education major from Burnsville, Minn.; senior Rachel Murray, a psychology major from West Allis; seniors Melanie (Katey) Johnson, a Spanish major from Roseville, Minn.; junior Hannah Krier, a nursing major from Brookfield; and freshman Jayne Kallenbach, a theatre arts major from Eau Claire.

The concert will be sponsored and coordinated by a College of Business management class, which is applying ideas learned in the class to promote a student group on campus. The idea for the collaboration originated when Delveaux's neighbor who is in the business class heard the group practicing.

"It has been really incredible how much help Audacious has received this year regarding gigs and publicity, and we are deeply grateful," Delveaux said.
