McIntyre Library Staff Association
Seeks Donations to Assist Hmong Families

RELEASED: Nov. 18, 2008

McIntyre Library logoEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's McIntyre Library Staff Association is taking donations for its annual fundraiser to benefit the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association.

For more than a decade, the staff association has held the fundraiser, which has raised thousands of dollars for the HMAA. Last year the effort raised $485 to purchase 925 pounds of rice for Hmong families in the Eau Claire area. Many of these families rely on the HMAA for their basic sustenance.

The current economic crisis, combined with a worldwide rice shortage that has driven the cost of rice up by as much as 50 percent in recent months, makes the need great this year.

The HMAA is a social service agency that serves the local Hmong community by operating a food pantry and assisting in housing, employment and translating services. The agency works also with other area services to assist our Hmong community.

Anyone is welcome to contribute to this project. Checks should be made payable to McIntyre Library Staff Association and submitted by Dec. 12 to Dan Hillis, staff association treasurer, in Room 5012 in the library. Contact Jill Markgraf at 715-836-5357 for more information.
