UW-Eau Claire Opera Workshop to Present 'Mayhem with Mozart'

RELEASED: Nov. 14, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Opera Workshop Ensemble will present a free performance of "Mayhem with Mozart" at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The performance will include operatic scenes composed by the famed composer, with some performed in traditional staging inspired by descriptions of the original productions. Others will be updated with more contemporary staging, including references to the modern day, and will extensively incorporate dance. The program will be sung in English and Italian.

The performance will begin with a duet with the sisters Dorabella and Fiordiligi from "Cosi Fan Tutte," followed by a love quartet from "Abduction from the Seraglio" and a scene from Mozart's unfinished opera "Zaide" set in a Starbucks. Next will be a performance of Zerlina and Leporello's "razor" duet from "Don Giovanni," followed by the Finale of "The Marriage of Figaro" set in a garden created in dance by the entire ensemble. "Ah perdona al prima affetto" from "La Clemenza di Tito" is followed by the Finale of "The Magic Flute" set to modern dance. A duet between Cherubino and Susanna as well as Cherubino's famous aria "Voi che sapete" from "The Marriage of Figaro" follow.
