UW-Eau Claire Demolition Work to Require
Sidewalk and Campus Hill Closures

RELEASED: Nov. 6, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — Beginning Nov. 10, a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire upper-campus sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and the Garfield Avenue hill will be closed to traffic earlier each weekday to accommodate demolition work associated with the ongoing upper campus chiller replacement project.

It is estimated that the daily sidewalk closure — affecting the east sidewalk that runs from the top of the Garfield Avenue hill down to the doorway under Hilltop Center — and extended weekday closure of the hill to traffic will remain in effect until the end of April 2009. The Garfield Avenue hill, normally closed to traffic from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays when UW-Eau Claire classes are in session, will close at 6 a.m. weekdays.

Workers will be moving construction equipment across the sidewalk and up and down the hill on a frequent basis.

When the sidewalk is closed, crossing Garfield Avenue and using the steps on either the north or south side of Hilltop Center will be the walking route to lower campus for residents of Murray Hall. They also can walk through Hilltop Center to access the sidewalk going down the hill.

Those wishing to access UW-Eau Claire's Environmental Adventure Center while the sidewalk is closed should enter one of Hilltop Center's upper doors and follow signs that will direct them to the facility on the building's lower level, normally accessed through the Garfield Avenue doorway.
