Blue Max to Kick Off Summer Music
at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE — The rocking electric blues group Blue Max will kick off the University Centers Summer Events series at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire June 9.

The free concert is open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall (rain: The Cabin of Davies Center). The audience is invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic. Free popcorn will be available.

Led by Howard "Guitar" Luedtke, one of the Midwest's best slide guitar players, Blue Max performs regularly at rock, blues and jazz festivals all over Wisconsin and Minnesota. Since 1987, Luedtke and his wife and bassist Deb Klossner have shared stages with the best in the blues world, including Long John Baldrey, Sugar Blue, Lonnie Brooks, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials, Debbie Davies, Tinsley Ellis, Jeff Healey, Jimmy Johnson, Kenny Neal, A.C. Reed, Eddie Shaw, James Solberg, Hubert Sumlin, Koko Taylor, George Thorogood, Joe Louis Walker and Johnny Winter.

Jazz at Noon concerts will take place every weekday in June starting June 9. Groups featuring UW-Eau Claire student and alumni musicians will perform under the direction of UW-Eau Claire graduate Steven Hobert. The 60-minute shows will feature music ranging from jazz standards to improvisation. A variety of grilled lunch items will be sold.

The eight-week series is funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire and coordinated by the University Centers.
