Mother's Day Challenge Results in Nearly 30 Scholarships

RELEASED: May 23, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — Nearly 30 mothers attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will receive scholarships in fall 2008 thanks to a unique gift challenge.

Siblings Peter, Margaret, Michael and William Scobie and Susan Scobie Mazzarella issued a challenge honoring their mother, Rosemary Mason Scobie, through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation to match gifts for scholarships for UW-Eau Claire students who are mothers. As a result, nearly 30 such students will receive $400 scholarships in fall 2008.

"Our mother was always very supportive of UW-Eau Claire, and three of her five children have degrees from there," Peter Scobie said. "We thought that Mother would be honored by us offering a matching gift challenge for the university."
