EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society held its annual fourth-grade essay contest in April.
All fourth-graders in the Eau Claire Area School District were invited to submit responses to a guided essay question. The essays were judged by Golden Key Honour Society members and winners were selected based on creativity and ingenuity.
The winners were:
Ulness received $50 for herself and another $50 for her classroom. The honorable mention winners each received $50 for their classrooms. All winners and participants received certificates of participation.
By sponsoring this essay contest, Golden Key fulfills its literacy service initiative and encourages local youth to extend their writing and creativity beyond the classroom. Additionally, Eau Claire's fourth-graders enjoy and recognize the importance of writing while taking steps toward improving their literacy.
