In Annual Evening of Champions March 28

RELEASED: March 18, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire forensics team will present its annual Evening of Champions from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday March 28, in Room 103 of Hibbard Hall. The event will feature nine performances by performers bound for national forensics tournaments.

Senior Hilary Rasmussen, Eau Claire, will perform her program oral interpretation and duo with junior Eric Plantenberg, Monroe, titled "Hate Mail." Plantenberg also will persuade the audience of the dangers of prescription medication in our water sources. Junior Justin Rudnick, Thorp, will perform a poetry program exploring the concept of messiahs, and sophomore Emily Schreiner, Wausau, will use humor to persuade patrons about the dangers of internet hoaxes.

Sophomore Dylan Jambrek, Waukesha, will perform his rhetorical criticism exploring a literal safe sex license, while sophomore Jake Johnson, Mondovi, will inform the audience about a new alternative energy source: poultry litter power plants. Sophomore Laura Magnusson, Apple Valley, will perform her prose interpretation, "The Girls," and sophomores Nick Miller, Hales Corners, and BJ Pickard, Eau Claire, will perform their duo interpretation, "The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon."

Members of the team include freshman to seniors from all over Minnesota and Wisconsin. The team competes from the second week in September until the national tournaments in April, this year traveling all across the Midwest and to Austin, TX.

Seven team members will be competing at the American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament at the University of Texas at Austin, April 5-7. Another ten competitors will join them and compete at the National Forensics Association National Tournament at Tennessee State University in Nashville, April 17-21. The team will wrap up their season with the Interstate Oratorical Contest being hosted in Madison at the State Capitol but sponsored by UW-Eau Claire forensics.
