image of bear runningEAU CLAIRE — With a challenge that "hibernation is done, so get up and run," the Student Athletic Training Association at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is organizing Spring Thaw 2008, a 5K run/walk March 29.

Sign up starts at 8 a.m. March 29 in the basement of Katharine Thomas Hall on UW-Eau Claire's lower campus. The race — hosted by SATA and the National Athletic Training Association Research and Education Foundation — will begin at the bottom of Garfield Hill on campus.

Organizers hope to attract 300 participants, said Spring Thaw 2008 executive board member Laura Vick, a sophomore from Cottage Grove.

Spring Thaw 2008 will give participants an opportunity to do something good for their bodies, enjoy spring weather and raise money for SATA and the NATA Research and Education Foundation, Vick said.

The registration fee is $15 for UW-Eau Claire students and $20 for non-students. Early registration is encouraged and is due by March 17. Forms can be found online. Registering the day of the race is an additional $5. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and a goody bag.

Details about the race, course maps and directions to Katharine Thomas Hall are available on the Web site.

The event is sponsored by Pepsi, Wisconsin Athletic Trainers' Association, Scheels, YMCA, Northwoods Therapy Associates, Chippewa Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Sport Clips, Buffalo Wild Wings, Pioneer Tavern and Shenanigans.

For details, contact Vick at 608-669-5306 or vickle@uwec.edu.
