UW-Eau Claire's 13th Annual Ska Fest Set for March 28 in Davies Center

RELEASED: March 12, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — Something To Do will headline the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's 13th annual Ska Fest concert March 28. Doors will open at 7 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

After Something To Do won a national songwriting competition in 2003, it had mentions on CNN Headline News, National Public Radio and more than 150 other media outlets. The Waukesha-based band has played shows in the Midwest, East Coast and Canada. In 2005, it was nominated for two Wisconsin Area Music Industry awards, including Band of the Year.

Joining Something To Do at Ska Fest 13 will be Catch of the Day, Manic Sewing Circle and Offend Your Friends. Car Full of Midgets (Kimberly) will open the show.

Catch of the Day fuses ska, funk, reggae, jazz and rock. A well-known Midwest ska band, the Slinger-based Catch of the Day has shared the stage with Suburban Legends, Mustard Plug, Catch 22, Planet Smashers, Big D and the Kids Table and I Voted for Kodos. It has played at Summerfest, Skappleton and at two Ska Fests in Eau Claire.

Manic Sewing Circle from Chicago has been playing its blend of ska-punk since 2004. It has two recordings, "Nobody Gets What We're Saying" and "Summer Spins," on Bouncing Betty Records. It has shared a bill with Big D and the Kids Table, Mustard Plug, Patent Pending, The Planet Smashers and Suburban Legend, and toured with the Vans Warped Tour 2006 and 2007.

Offend Your Friends from Fond du Lac is a high-energy, ska-influenced punk band. Its songs feature social and political lyrics, but it doesn't let its serious side get in the way of a party.

The show is open to all ages. Proof of age will be required for alcohol purchases.

Tickets are $5 ($3 with UW-Eau Claire student ID card) at the Service Center in Davies Center's east lobby and will be sold at the door. Patrons can charge tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call 715-836-3727 — or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free 800-949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.

The concert is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
