EAU CLAIRE — Nine University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students received Allstate Property and Casualty Actuarial Achievement Awards after successfully completing a qualifying Casualty Actuarial Society exam. The $750 award was divided among all recipients to provide partial reimbursement of exam fees.

To qualify for the award, students must be full-time graduate or undergraduate students pursuing a degree in mathematics, actuarial science or a related field that requires a high aptitude in math. They also must be members of the UW-Eau Claire Actuarial Club.

Recipients were Jessica Porath, Mosinee; Amanda Funk, Clintonville; Jason Jossie, Mequon; Chris DeCleene, Appleton; Greg Ryan, Madison; Alexandra Redpath, Mahtomedi, Minn.; Karissa Wysocki, Plainfield; Ryan Goodrich, Durand; and Kevin Kropp, Stevens Point.

The actuarial science program includes a comprehensive major and minor for students not majoring in math. The major prepares students for the first two actuarial professional exams and a portion of the third. The program includes coursework that meets the required validation by educational experience categories of applied statistics, economics and corporate finance.

UW-Eau Claire's program is one of only about 60 programs nationwide that prepares future actuaries to this level. Currently, about 40 students are enrolled in the comprehensive major and minor programs.

The Actuarial Club was reestablished in 1998 to assist aspiring actuaries. The club offers study groups for exams, helps secure internships and jobs, establishes contacts with area actuaries, and promotes the field of actuarial science.

For more information, visit the Actuarial Club Web site, or contact club adviser Kristopher Presler, associate professor of mathematics, at preslekk@uwec.edu or 715-836-3521.
