UW-Eau Claire to Host Annual ACDA Concert

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will present the 16th Annual American Choral Directors Association "Celebration of Music" at 2 p.m. March 9 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The ACDA concert will feature, in order of performance, The Singing Statesmen, the Women's Chorus, the Women's Concert Chorale and the UW-Eau Claire Concert Choir.

The Singing Statesmen, directed by Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of music, will open with "Trösterin Musik" by Anton Bruckner. "Absalon, Fili Mi" by Josquin des Pres, Edwin Fissinger's "The Tabernacle of God" and James Mulholland's arrangement of "Fare Thee Well Love" will follow.

The Women's Chorus, under the direction of Robert Mondlock, lecturer of music, will begin with "Adoramus Te" by Giovanni da Palestrina and Frederic Swift. Next will be "La Lluvia" by Stephen Hatfield, followed by Allen Koepke's "And Nature Smiled." The Women's Chorus will conclude with "Gate Gate" by Brian Tate.

The Women's Concert Chorale, directed by Alan Rieck, associate professor of music, will follow the Women's Chorus with "O frondens virga" by Hildegard von Bingen. Following will be "Wandl' ich in dem Wald des Abends" by Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn and Emma Lou Diemer's "Hope Is the Thing with Feathers." The final two selections will be "Lifegiver" by Christine Temple-Evans and "Mouth Music" by Delores Keane and John Faulkner.

The UW-Eau Claire Concert Choir, also under the direction of Schwartzhoff, will take the stage last. The choir will begin with "Make a Joyful Noise Unto God" by Heinz Werner Zimmermann and "Gaudete Omnes" by Jan Pieterzoon Sweelinck. Next will be David Dickau's "Echo" and "O Day Full of Grace" by F. Melius Christiansen. The ensemble will conclude the ACDA concert with "Wade in de Water" by Allen Koepke.

Accompanists will include juniors Johnathan Turba, Platteville, and Kevin Gisi, Fitchburg, and sophomore Alex Chilsen, New Richmond, for The Singing Statesmen; senior Katy Eckes, Maple Grove, Minn., for the Women's Chorus; junior Anna Torgerson, Prior Lake, Minn., for Women's Concert Chorale; and Turba and senior Meghan Quinn, Shoreview, Minn., for the Concert Choir.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
