Raining Jane

EAU CLAIRE — Raining Jane, an eclectic rock-folk band based in Los Angeles, will perform at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tuesday, March 11. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Schofield Auditorium. Admission is free and open to all ages.

Mai Bloomfield, Becky Gebhardt, Chaska Potter and Mona Tavakoli joined forces as Raining Jane in 1999, and they soon developed a loyal fan base at UCLA. After spending the next four years gigging in California, recording an album and finishing college, Raining Jane made its first venture outside the golden state. Now the foursome spends much of its time touring throughout the United States and opening for artists such as Vanessa Carlton, Guster, Reel Big Fish, Citizen Cope and Maktub.

In 2005, Raining Jane self-released its second studio album "Diamond Lane," with Grammy-award winner Mark Johnson (Paul Simon, Ben Harper, Jackson Browne) and Robin Moxey. Also in 2005, Raining Jane garnered a full endorsement from Fender.

While Raining Jane's music is rooted in rock and folk, songs are further shaped by funk, hip-hop and world music influences. Each member contributes to songwriting and song crafting. Starting with a foundation in acoustic and electric guitars, drums and bass, the band members expand their sound beyond what is expected by swapping instruments and incorporating the cello, Cajon, sitar and rapping. Chill-inducing three-part harmonies seal the deal on Raining Jane's sound.

The show is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
