23rd Annual Kaleidoscope of Nursing Scholarship
Set for April 25 at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Sigma Theta Tau and Continuing Education/UW-Extension will present "Linking Practice and Research: 23rd Annual Kaleidoscope of Nursing Scholarship" from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, on the UW-Eau Claire campus.

The Delta Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau will host a reception at 4 p.m. with an induction ceremony to follow.

Keynote speaker Dr. Julie Johnson Zerwic will present "Evidence-Based Practice in Heart Health." Zerwic is well known for a program of research that has saved lives by improving the recognition of symptoms and reducing delay in seeking care for a heart attack. She currently is funded by the National Institutes of Health to develop a computerized program focused on improving black men's recognition of myocardial infarction symptoms and risk factors.

Jane Poeschel, a registered nurse who currently practices in a rural health setting and precepts for the nursing master's program at UW-Eau Claire, will be the luncheon speaker. Her presentation, "Health Alert: Could Snoring and Chronic Pain be Related?" reflects her research and interest in sleep apnea and well-being.

The day also will include poster and abstract presentations on topics such as assessment and care of the aging population, mental health, educational models and cultural diversities. Nurses from all practice areas will find new evidence-based ideas.

The program fee is $60 for professionals and $30 for UW-Eau Claire graduate nursing students and includes morning refreshments, lunch and a book of abstracts. Participants may earn 5.0 nursing education contact hours.
