UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education to Offer Chinese Language Course for 5th- Through 8th-Grade Students

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will offer "Let's Learn Chinese," a beginning-level language course for students in grades 5 through 8. The course will be held on the UW-Eau Claire campus in the Human Sciences and Services Building, Room 179, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 13 through Nov. 15. No prior Chinese language experience is needed.

Dr. Simei Tong, a Shanghai native and UW-Eau Claire mathematics faculty member, is the course instructor. Students will learn basic vocabulary, how to write Chinese characters and aspects of the Chinese culture, including music, food and games.

Themed units in the course include "Family and Friends," "Food and Clothing," "Sports and Health" and "Seasons and School." The "Learn Chinese with Me" textbook, workbook and CD set will be used in the course. Students may keep the workbook.

Cost for the course is $195 per person. A family discount is available for multiple family members registering at the same time.
