UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education to Offer
Fall 2008 ACT Prep Course

RELEASED: June 11, 2008

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will offer an ACT Prep Course on the UW-Eau Claire campus Saturday mornings from Aug. 23 through Oct. 18. The course will offer students an opportunity to prepare for the Oct. 25 or Dec. 13 national ACT exam dates.

The ACT Prep Course will cover the four academic areas measured by the ACT: English, reading, mathematics and scientific reasoning. Some time will also be spent on ACT's optional essay exam. In addition to performing exercises and skill drills and reviewing test-taking strategies, students will take two official ACT practice exams and receive detailed computer analyses of their results. All students will also receive a comprehensive ACT textbook.

The program will serve a need in the community for additional college entrance test preparation, said Libby Thurston, UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education youth coordinator.

"The ACT Prep Course is meant to compliment shorter programs already offered in the community," Thurston said. "It's a cost-effective option for students who need a little more review. While many students opt to prepare on their own, it's helpful for some students to have a more structured environment."

Students can work together on the exercises, and instructors are always on hand to answer questions and offer guidance, Thurston said.

The ACT Prep Course tuition is $170, which includes instruction, practice exams, test analyses and the ACT textbook.
