EAU CLAIRE — Songs, stories and tall tales will begin the second week of the University Centers Summer Events series at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Monday, June 16.

Eddie Jeff Cahill, a true wandering minstrel, will perform at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall (rain site: The Cabin, Davies Center) as part of the Music on the Mall series. The audience is invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic to the show, which is free and open to the public. Free popcorn will be available.

Cahill was born on a cold December evening in 1948. After eight soul-searching years, Cahill realized he was an entertainer and launched a career in music. Starting on the string bass, he meandered his way through various instruments until settling on the guitar. His meandering was not limited to musical instruments it became his lifestyle. As a result of this lifestyle he has acquired a diverse selection of songs and stories throughout the United States and Canada. The variety of venues — renaissance festivals, folk and blues festivals, concerts, coffeehouses and even "The Ed Sullivan Show" — has given Cahill's work a grassroots connection.

The Summer Events series also will present Jazz at Noon concerts Monday through Friday, June 16-20, on the Central Campus Mall. Groups featuring UW-Eau Claire student and alumni musicians will perform under the direction of UW-Eau Claire graduate Steven Hobert. The 60-minute shows will feature music ranging from jazz standards to improvisation. A variety of grilled lunch items will be sold.

With the theme "Welcome to Our Backyard," University Centers Summer Events continue through July 31. A complete schedule is available at the Service Center, 715-836-3727, or online.

The eight-week series is funded by UW-Eau Claire students and coordinated by University Centers. For more information contact Paula Stuettgen, senior coordinator for assessment and special projects, 715-836-4803.
