'Ethics and Boundaries' Programs Offered
for Social Workers and Other Human Service Professionals

EAU CLAIRE — Every social worker, whether independent, clinical or in advanced practice, must complete at least 25 continuing education hours by the end of the current abbreviated credentialing period, which ends Feb. 28, 2009. Of the 25 required hours, at least four hours must be in the subject area of ethics and boundaries.

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education is offering three "Ethics and Boundaries" seminars on eight different dates from September through February 2009. Topics and dates include:

  • "A Rural Perspective," 12:30-4:30 p.m. Sept. 25, Ashland; Oct. 16, Rhinelander; and Feb. 5, Hayward. Dr. Nick Smiar, professor of social work at UW-Eau Claire, will be the speaker.
  • "Comprehensive," 12:30-4:30 p.m. Nov. 13, Eau Claire; and Jan. 14, Marshfield; 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 26, Eau Claire. Dr. Ardyth Krause, formerly an assistant professor of social work at UW-Eau Claire, will conduct the Marshfield session. Smiar will conduct the Eau Claire sessions.
  • "A Clinical Perspective," 9:30 a.m. -4 p.m. Dec. 4, Eau Claire; and Dec. 5, Wausau. Dr. Gary R. Schoener, licensed psychologist, organizational consultant and executive director of the Walk-in Counseling Center in Minneapolis, will be the presenter. Schoener's programs are offered for six continuing education hours to accommodate human service professionals who need those additional hours for licensure.

The $89 registration fee for each four-hour program includes instruction, materials, four continuing education hours and refreshments. The price for the longer program is $159 and lunch is included.
